Your home serves as a mirror of your personality, tastes, and values. The way you arrange and organize your living space showcases your preferences, interests, and emotional state.
When you think about your home, you naturally consider its decor and style, your collections and belongings, organization and cleanliness, functionality, and sustainability. All of these factors can be explored, however first we need to start at the beginning.
Who are you and what do you need from your home to feel supported, balanced, and productive? Remember, both you and your surroundings are composed of energy. The key is to understand your own energy first so that you can create an environment that truly supports you.
In Feng Shui, we always approach things from the perspective of the five elements: fire, earth, metal, water, and wood. When these elements are in harmony, they bring ease and flow to all aspects of your life. Each person is born with a unique balance of these elements. You can't create a space that supports your well-being until you understand your own elemental composition—knowing which elements you need more or less of in your surroundings.
When I work with clients, I start by calculating their elements. This helps me understand where we should begin our Feng Shui journey together. My favorite part is revealing the strengths of their elements and examining the remaining balance that reflects their output in life or creation, their rewards and what they control, the pressures they face to succeed, and the support they receive from external sources to be their best selves. It's truly amazing how this exploration resonates with my clients and aligns with their own realities.
This fundamental understanding is critical in Feng Shui because you can't optimize any elements in your home until you understand what you bring to your space. For example, this year we know that strengthening the wood element in the center of our homes is important for improving the flow of energy related to love, relationships, and education. However, if you already possess a strong wood element within yourself, we don't want to overwhelm your home with too many plants. That would disrupt the natural balance and have a negative impact, working against the harmony you desire instead of flowing with it.
This understanding is the magical piece when you want to create a home that truly reflects and supports who you are. Good Feng Shui isn't a one-size-fits-all solution. Each of us has a unique formula to start from, unlocking the full power of living in a space where you are in complete flow and harmony begins with understanding ourselves.
